Volunteer Fire &

Ambulance Department

PUBLIC PROTECTION CLASSIFICATION NOTICE

Recently the Russiaville Volunteer Fire Department conducted an ISO inspection. An ISO inspection is performed by the Insurance Services Office; it collects and evaluates information from communities in the United States on their structure fire suppression capabilities. The data is analyzed using a fire suppression rating schedule and then a Public Protection Classification number is assigned to the community. ISO evaluates communities according to a uniform set of criteria, incorporating nationally recognized standards developed by the National Fire Protection Association and the American Water Works Association. The fire department is evaluated on staffing, training, fire equipment, and geographic distribution of fire apparatus. The scoring system works like this, a score is given from 1-10. 1 represents exemplary protection, 10 indicates that the area does not meet ISO’s minimum criteria. Russiaville’s old score was a 7/9. The new score for the Russiaville area is a 4/8b. That is a huge improvement!
So what does this mean? It is important to know that a lot of insurance companies reference ISO for home owner’s insurance rates. So I encourage everyone living in Monroe Township, Honey Creek Township, and the Town of Russiaville; who has fire protection provided by the Russiaville Volunteer Fire Department to contact their insurance provider and let them know about the improvement in your ISO community Public Protection Classification. This accomplishment could not have been possible without helpful donations to the Russiaville Volunteer Fire Department. Each and every donation dollar is used to improve the department. For example; buying new equipment or sending firemen to new advanced training classes, in the long run it has truly paid off. By donating you are not only helping the local volunteer fire department, you have also helped yourself by improving your community Public Protection Classification. This new information could mean saving money in home owners insurance rates.
Further information can be obtained in Russiaville at the Town Hall, Russiaville Auto Techs, or by contacting the Russiaville Volunteer Fire Department. You may email the Fire Chief at rfdchief600@aol.com or call the fire station and leave a message at 765-883-5200.
Thank You,
Landen Bartley, Fire Chief
